Tenant beats landlady, dragged to court

A 28-year-old fashion designer, Chizoba Nwakuro, who allegedly slapped his landlady over unsettled house rent, was on Monday hauled up before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court. Nwakuro, a resident of Odusola Street, Aboru, Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, is being tried for breach of peace and assault. According to the Prosecutor George Nwosu, the accused committed the offences on April 4 at his apartment. He said the offender  assaulted his landlady, Mrs Destiny Dennis, by slapping her several times. Nwosu said the accused was owing the complainant four months rent and when she asked for the money, the tenant got angry and gave her several slaps on her face. The offences contravened Sections 166 and 170 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Section 166 provides three months or N45, 000 fine or both, while Section 170 prescribes three years jail term for breach of peace. The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N10,000 with two sureties

Punch man recalled to Aso Rock

 Presidency has recalled the Correspondent of Punch Newspapers, Olalekan Adetayo, attached to the State House, Abuja, barely 10 hours after his expulsion from the beat. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, confirmed this development in a message addressed to the Chairman of the State House Press Corps, Malam Ubale Musa. The presidential spokesman revealed that the recall of Adetayo followed the intervention of the Director-General of the Department for State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura. According to him, his office and that of the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity will resolve the issue on Tuesday. “”We just got a clearance from Malam Lawal Daura, the DG SSS, to recall Lekan to the Villa. Students rate Nigeria telecom operators low

Some students of Abuja University on Friday criticised telecom operators for poor service delivery and failure to abide by the rules of the regulatory body. The students, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in separate interviews in Abuja, said that the telecom operators were playing double standards in their operations. Garba Musa, a law student said that what the telecom operators’ offer on advertisements were sometimes false. “The truth of the matter is that telecom operators deceive their customers a lot; most times they try to entice the consumers with lots of offers. “It is deceiving that when you try to apply for these offers, they charge you without even notifying you that what you are subscribing for will cost you some charges. “It is not just charges but exorbitant charges,” Musa said.
